Alternative Firing Methods and SurfacesThere is an endless variety of firing methods and surface treatment available to ceramics artists. We continually explore new techniques and love the possibilities. We are currently exploring terra sigillata, which is a thin coating of the finest clay particles. The terra sig is brushed onto the unfired piece and then burnished to a luster. We are adding stains for colorant, giving us a new pallette. We plan to pit fire in the near future, and experiment with horsehair. In the spring we hope to wood fire a load of our work. |
